23 APRIL NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CHILDREN’S DAY AND 100TH FOUNDING YEAR OF THE TBMM

April 23, 1920 is the date when the First Grand National Assembly, which represents the will of the Turkish nation, was opened and declared the sovereignty of the Turkish people.

On 23 April 1924, Atatürk decided to celebrate the "April 23" day as a feast. Five years after this date, on April 23, 1929, Atatürk presented this holiday to children, and April 23 was celebrated as the Children's Day for the first time in 1929. In 1979, this national holiday, which we carried to the international dimension with the participation of six countries for the first time, also joins foreign country children, who come from more than forty countries every year, who are the guests of Turkish children. holiday gifts to children who festivals in the world and this is the first and only country in the whole world, sharing with Turkey.

The April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day, which occupies the most important place in the heart of the Turkish nation as an unwavering expression of its independence, is celebrated every year in our country and abroad, in all our institutions, schools and in every home, and represents the unified expression of our national union.

In the thought of great leader Atatürk, children are the future of the nation. As an expression of his unwavering trust and great love for them, he presented 23 April, our national holiday, to children. April 23 is an important occasion in order to learn the proud pages of our history by the new generations and to keep up with the awareness of the new Republic guards that we will entrust the continuation of the Turkish State.
